Stage 1 of the redo-Click on image for larger view
This is about the middle of where I had been on this
painting, then decide I didn't like the effects, so I've
sanded it down some and have put a thin coat of
color on the sky which now has a subtle tone quality
to it that I like.

Since I'm also doing some book projects, this will be
slow going.

Stay tuned to see where I go next!

Stage 2 with modified colors
Here I have added the background with a haze to
it.   I've gone over the water to get a more
luminous effect.  In the foreground I am adding
more of the green in the water which should
create a clear effect later.
For some reason I seem to be having trouble
with my camera, it's not saving the colors quite
right.
This at least shows what's being done.
Today I lightened the sky slightly and started
applying a green base over the blue haze of
the mountian.  The final layer will be where the
stronger colors will come in.
add highlights of sky reflection later.
There will be more waves and wash, but what
will make it all come together will be when I
add the palm trees.

Finally had a chance to work on this some
more...and as you can see I made a major
change again!    The more I had looked at the
painting the more I realized it just didn't have
the depth or color and action that I like, so I
resanded the upper half and redid it.
I've toned down the sand and darkened the
water some, which is still more of a base coat
as it will have reflection of the sky, wash of
the waves and more spots of clean color.
The subdued base accents the highlights in
the end.
I will also add a few palm trees which should
set the whole painting off.
Breaching   Whale  work-in-progress
I thought I had a beginning photo of this painting, but
guess I forgot to take one, so here is where I'm at so far.  I
did have some mountains in the back, but they detracted
from the whale, so I sanded them out.   I like the misty
effect that's going on here and the suggestion of wave
action.   I'm liking the way the fins really give a feeling of
depth.

Breaching Whale - $70.00  (12" x 8")  When finished
Finally had time to work some on the
painting.  I added some more color to the
mountains and have started work on the
water.
Here, I have started to add more detail in the
water, plus placed the palm trees in a
location I think I will like.   I try to get the
movement to go round and round.  The
mountains point to the right, then the waves
pull you back to the beach, which in turns
takes you to the palm trees, which then
starts the process all over again.
Today I touched up some of the sanded areas on the
whale and have started to lighten the fin, belly and the
water streaming off whale.  The upper portion of the
painting is a little too blue due to different lighting at the
moment, but this should give you an idea of where
changes are being made.

Starting to come together now, when the
palms are finished, then I'll touch up the
background.  The foreground rocks need
to be finished yet and a little touch of
whatever is needed in the water and waves.
